CITY ORPHANS

The pictures show felled tree trunks. The felling of those trees is an aftermath of a newly passed law which gives permit to urban developers for cutting down trees in areas of our municipality.

I was truly shocked by seeing this law being carried out against the integral part of our urban environment, our city’s trees, which we all not only enjoy to have, but also we have many benefits from them. For a few days, I was strolling through the city’s sites of the felled trees, recording this speedy process in which Warsaw’s landscape was subjected to its permanent transformation.

Every tree has its own “living soul”; they are witness of daily lives and history. Every cross-section of a tree trunk; this abstract painting of perfectly assigned  rings, lining against each other in some mysterious pattern, is an unique and independent Work of Art.
